In 2006 a dedicated focus was undertaken to establish a balanced portfolio of high value boutique Residential and Commercial Customers, and in 2007 our name was changed to OpenDoors NZ Ltd to better reflect our new direction and greater ambition. This resulted in a change of factory layout, new processes, and an influx of skilled staff to facilitate more specialised and customised work. By the end of 2007 around 60% of the work undertaken had become “non-standard”.
2008 saw the remodelling of the showroom to allow a broader display of hardware and improved customer interaction as well as heralding in our first step towards sustainability with the introduction of our “Green Doors” initiative designed to support our Customers seeking Green Star certification.
The GFC had started to bite in 2009 with building consents significantly down resulting in a drop in demand for doors. Looking for a point of difference we re-evaluated our business resulting in the introduction of our range of “Creative Doors” which we successfully released at the Auckland Home show.
In May 2009 OpenDoors acquired Tasman Interior Doors
(retaining separate Brands) combining the skills, buying power, and market relationships of both companies to provide our Customers with a full service package for any door solution or requirement. This also resulted in a relocation to our current factory at 67a Courtney Rd.
In 2010 a further acquisition of Avenue 15 Doors took place adding to our capability and Customer base.
Over the years between 2011 and 2014, OpenDoors and Tasman Interior Doors continued to grow to supply many of the Group Home Building companies and local builders with their pre-hung doors increasing our reach to the Waikato, Auckland, and Coromandel regions.
In 2014, The BarnDoors division was introduced as a ‘trial’ project. With a very small investment, we worked with local metal fabricators to develop a product that replicated the old exposed sliding track systems from yester-year. This concept idea hit the market, and gained popularity very rapidly.
In 2015, we focused on efficiency and improvement with the introduction of LEAN Manufacturing Principals and the installation of a precision CNC machine to improve quality.
Our Barn Doors division grew extensively in 2015-2016 as our product gained exposure with TV coverage on DIY programmes.
In 2016, we dropped the Tasman name and logo, and refocused on the OpenDoors brand. We streamlined our Vision Statement to be simply The Door Supplier of Excellence and Innovation, who Cares, to reflect the ‘heart’ of the business
In 2018 further refinement of our Branding commenced ahead of the introduction of a fully functional ERP system in 2019 with extensive access to Customer information at the touch of a button from anywhere.
In 2023 OpenDoors NZ Ltd continues to focus on our core principles of Excellence, Innovation, and Care as our story keeps unfolding.
